The Red Cross University College of Nursing
The Red Cross University College (RKH) offers training leading to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing as well as single subject courses for nurses. RKH also provides courses for specialist nurses, awards a Master of Science in Nursing, and carries out commissioned courses within medical care. Around 500 students attend RKH, which has trained nurses since 1867. A thorough knowledge of written and spoken Swedish is required for the undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as most of the literature and lectures are in Swedish.
Humanity and impartiality
The Non-Profit Foundation for the Red Cross Hospital and the Red Cross University College is the principal of RKH. Accordingly, RKH works in accordance with the basic principles of the Red Cross: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, unity, voluntary service and universality. RKH has well-established contacts with universities and university colleges all over the world, for example through exchange programmes and research exchanges.
Field studies and research
In addition to traineeships abroad within exchange programmes, RKH students are also offered the possibility of carrying out field studies in other countries and participating in international courses and conferences. As a student at RKH you will always keep in contact with on-going research, for example through lectures and seminars given by RKH teachers who are active within research.
The individual university college
The RKH is a small university college that combines tradition and renewal in order to provide high-quality training. It is easy to get in contact with the staff at the university college and you have great possibilities to influence your education. The theoretical education is provided on RKH’s own modern premises at the Red Cross Hospital, which has been part of the KTH Campus since 2004. You can easily get there by bus, metro or Roslagsbanan to the Tekniska Högskolan station. Clinical training is provided at Karolinska University Hospital in Solna as well as in clinics located in the city and the western part of Stockholm.
