The Swedish National Defence College
Research and education at the Swedish National Defence College (SNDC) is conducted with the purpose of protecting society from and facilitating its management of crisis and war. SNDC is where military and civilian students and researchers come together from quite diverse backgrounds, and from where many of its graduates launch exciting and meaningful careers.
In uniform or plain clothes
SNDC is responsible for providing military education at every level, including the Officers programme leading to 180 university credits and a Bachelor’s degree in War Science. Nevertheless, being a student at SNDC does not automatically mean you have to wear a uniform – civilian students are also welcome to take courses in political science, international law, military technology, military history, and leadership. In uniform or plain clothes? It is your choice.
Congenial study environment and unique opportunities
SNDC is one of Sweden’s smallest university colleges, with an enrolment of only 800 or so full-time students. As one of them, you will have ample opportunity to receive individual attention from tutors and professors, and benefit from twenty-four hour access to the Anna Lindh library, the Nordic countries’ foremost specialist library for defence, foreign, and security policy.
SNDC is a unique meeting place for the military and the civilian, the national and the international. In our corridors you will mingle with a mix of students – some fresh out of high school, some with years of professional experience. This will not only help you acquire a wider knowledge base and give you a more rewarding period of study, but it will also help you establish valuable contacts for future entry into the world of work, in Sweden or abroad.
An SNDC education is a unique education. The things you need to know in order to work in the changing world of security policy can only be learned here. If your goal is to get involved at the hub of things, then studies at the SNDC will surely be one of your best investments!
